When I was just a wee little thing we were on our way to well somewhere, I honestly can't remember anywhere specific, but we stopped at a yard sale. Sound weird? Well it's not for my family. My mother loves a good deal. So we stopped at there she was. The cutest little mutt puppy ever seen. (Ok this is really what has been told to me later, I was only two so I can't remember the details.) The resemblence of a rottweiler with huge paws and little wet nose we were in love, especially with the fact she was free. We promised to return after our trip and to pick her up.
And we did. We named her Zoey after Zoey Baird who was part of the Clinton administration. Why? I'm not sure. But Zoey fit her well. She was part rottweiler, black lab, springer spaniel and something long and fast like a greyhound. Instead of getting big like we thought she's just grew right into her large paws.
She was a great dog. She didn't do a whole lot besides follow my mom around and eat all the cat food. But she never chewed up anything and was always gentle with us kids. In her younger days she could jump so high we thought she was part kangaroo. We had her for seventeen years (pretty much my entire life) before we had to say goodbye.
This is the last picture ever taken of that sweet girl. She wasn't a very loud or active dog towards the end but her presence was definetly missed. Even the cats seemed to notice and less than a month later I was off to Latin America leaving my poor parents home alone and without me for Christmas. So what did I do? With the help of my two best friends Lauren and Emily I picked out a dog to Surprise my lonely, sad parents with on Christmas eve!
After sending me emails after emails of dogs from the pound or craigslist I just kept going back to this
A friend of Emily had several labradoodle puppies that were just the cutest things available. I finally decided on them and told them to get a nice sweet calm one that could keep my parents company and which did they pick?
ROTUNDO!
Lauren repeatedly asked me if I should at least ask my dad and what if they didn't like it. Good thing I know my Mom. =)
Christmas Eve they delivered him and surprised my whole family.
I think she was happy. =)
For their story of the night you can read here We did it!
Mission accomplished!
I gave them a list of names I liked and they picked Piper which yes is after Piper aircraft the plane I flew all last year but they decided to spell it with a Y to change it up.
So Rotundo became Pyper and I received numerous emails from my mom about how Pyper was potty training and getting along. It was like a new mom. But they kept me updated with pictures of him growing.
Remember how I told me friends to get a sweet, calm and well natured puppy? Well they told me they had found the perfect one. Pyper is the perfect puppy but is so far from being calm and well behaved. He loves these two stuffed tigers alot
One of the many things he has chewed up but who can stay mad at that face? I know I can't.
We recently just watch Hachi: a dogs tale. It was such a good movie. I highly recommend it. It is what inspired me to write about Pyper and I know there will be future posts about him cause he is a huge part of my daily life right now.
And now you are all up to date! He is the perfect example of why dogs are so amazing! Shoutout to all the dogs and their owners out there!
