Pegasus

The last couple weeks I have been taking Nick to Pegasus while his mom is back east.
I've known Nick almost my entire life. He's been there every Sunday at church ready to give a hug and I saw him weekly during high school.
We play tag the entire car ride and listen to country music which is Nick's favorite.
Pegasus as in the flying mythical horse? Close.
The Pegasus Project is a nonprofit group that provides therapeutic riding classes and hippotherapy for the disabled.
Oh did I mention Nick has down syndrome?
It was awesome to watch. They start out having the kids walk their horse around the arena.
Then they get on and walk, trot, halt, back up and all sorts of other stuff.
This boy's mom says he may not listen very well at school but he listens to every word they tell me here. Also the horse he's on, Duchess, chose him. That's what they said!  And they say he is her favorite rider. Aren't horses incredible.
They love it. Each one has a huge smile on their face the entire time.
Towards the end they let them take the reins on their own. Here's Nick keeping his horse Noelle from following one of the instructors. Awesome job Nick!
